How to Clean Your Necklaces Gently and Intentionally
Every necklace holds more than shine — it holds presence.
Over time, even the most radiant pieces need gentle renewal. Oils, air, and wear leave traces that dull their light. At Maison Tierry, we believe cleaning your jewelry isn’t just about maintenance — it’s about honoring what rests close to your skin.
What You’ll Need
Simple tools. Intentional care.
- Soft microfiber cloth
- Mild soap or non-abrasive jewelry cleaner
- Soft-bristled toothbrush (or a clean baby brush)
- Bowl of warm water
- Cotton swabs or sponge tips for fine details
How to Clean Necklaces by Material
Silver
Use a silver-polishing cloth to remove tarnish. For deeper cleansing, soak in soapy warm water, brush softly, rinse, and dry thoroughly.
Gold
Soak in warm, mild soapy water. Use a soft brush to clean any crevices. Rinse and dry with a gentle cloth.
Pearls
Never soak. Wipe each pearl with a damp cloth after wearing. Let dry flat. Store in a soft pouch to preserve their glow.
Diamonds
Soak for 10–15 minutes in warm, soapy water. Brush gently around the setting, rinse, and pat dry with a lint-free cloth.
Gold-Plated Pieces
Wipe gently with a soft cloth and a small amount of soapy water. Avoid scrubbing. Rinse quickly, then dry.
Leather
Wipe gently with a damp cloth. Avoid excess moisture. Let it air dry completely away from direct heat or light.
Stainless Steel
Clean with soapy water and a soft brush. It’s a durable material, but still deserves soft care. Rinse and dry well.
When to Clean Your Necklaces
- By material: Delicates like pearls = less often. Durable metals = monthly, depending on use.
- By lifestyle: If you wear them daily or during activity, clean them more regularly.
- After swimming: Always clean after contact with chlorine or saltwater to prevent wear and tarnish.
How to Keep Your Necklaces Tarnish-Free
- Store in a soft, dry place — ideally in fabric-lined pouches.
- Avoid contact with perfumes, lotions, or hair products.
- Wipe with a clean cloth after each wear — a small ritual to preserve their soul.
